The 1st column is the model code that you will see in your giant's chassis number plate. An example is shown below.
Toyota Alphard Chassis Number
The 2nd column indicate the years in which this model was manufacture. The 3rd column indicate the frame type. ANH is the frame code for 2.4L model, ATH is the frame code for Hybrid model while MNH is the frame code for 3.0L model. The two digits after that indicates whether it is a 2WD (10) or a 4WD (15).
The 4th column indicates the characteristics of this car. The first two alphabet is the model type (AX/AS/MX/MS/MZ). The next set of alphabet shows that it is of VAN (V) body type. The next set of code is the engine code (2AZFE for 2.4L and 1MZFE for 3.0L). The next set of alphabet shows the gear shift type (4FC - 4 speed automatic floor shift and 5FC - 5 speed automatic floor shift) and final set of alphabet indicates whether it is a 7 seaters or 8 seaters.
If you see a giant and wanted the absolute confirmation, just match the model code of that giant to the table above to verify the model and characteristic.
Hope this help with the identification of your giant.

Update: I have uploaded the table here. Click the link to download it.

  1. I read your explanation thanks but why does the example pictured (I assume this is your own Alphard's Build Tag) not correspond to your table above it? I am still confused on how to understand the coding.

  2. The one in the picture is from a car on the road.It correspond to this row (3rd row) in the table.

    ANH10W-PRPGK 05/2002 - ANH10 AX V VAN 2AZFE 4FC 08S.

It shows that this car is a 2.4L 8 seaters AX.

I have yet to find out what's the X at the end of the model code signify.

If you read down further on that picture, it also show you the colour (042 - pearl white). Not sure what's the trim code refers to.

    It is also a 2WD model (02A).

    Hope this help.

  5. Hai chan,

I couldn't open the link but anyhow i hope i can used the above table as refrance since the unit i want to buy is 7 seater. But when the owner fax to me a copy of pink slip (geran kereta), it was stated as 8 seater!!

So i did asking the owner the diffrent of detail, he said he also not reliace on that (he have 6 cars at a time!), so i think because of this he not even bother bout the pink slip.I also cross check with AP which he gave to me, but the numb of seater is not stated there.(not so clear+dark = poor fax machine!! hehehe )

So, beside above table, where else we can check to identify the unit is 7 or 8 seater originaly?
As per him,the 1st day he bought is already 7 seater.emm..

Say for example it is a guniene 7 seater model, and JPJ wrongly key in as 8 seater, can we ask JPJ to correct it in pink slip? If can ,what is our support document as a prove that the unit is belong to 7 seater?

At the back of pink slip,i saw each year the owner paid RM20xx.xx for 1 year roadtax from 2003-2005,
then from 2005-2009 he paid RM16xx.xx only every year.Emmm...

Hopefully u can give me some idea. Thanks

    Jariya

  6. Hi Jariya,

Sorry for the delay. I was away on holiday the last few days.

Yes, the model code will tell you exactly if the car is a 7 seaters or 8 seaters. If you have problem with the chart above, maybe you can send me the model code and I'll double check for you. Send it to askds@live.com.

Unfortunately there is no supporting document to support whether the unit is a 7 seaters or 8 seaters. The number of seats is only relevant on the JPJ registration card and the insurance cover note. If there is an error then you can alway request to JPJ to make a correction but I am not familiar with the procedure.

I think after the reclassified Alphard under the MPV category the road tax also was reduced accordingly.

Sounds like you are very keen on this unit. As long as all the documents are in order I think it should not be an issue with the car.

Let me know if you need other input.

    Cheers
