Season Greeting from EightSeatersBlogspot.com

Every morning when I start the giant, it will greet me with a sweet Japanese voice announcing what day is it. It will say “今は十二月ニ十三日木てす” which means “Today is Thursday, December 23rd". The greeting always put a smile on me as it signal a new day has begin and remind me which day is it.

I didn’t drive the giant this morning so I was pleasantly surprise when it greeted me just now at 9:30p, with the message“メリキリムス今は十二月ニ十四日金てす” which means “Merry Christmas, today is Friday, December 24th". It seems the Japanese engineer who programs the greeting message has included seasonal greeting into their software. I have no way of knowing if it will say the same message early in the morning today but it seems the program has detected that the time is close to Chritmas so it added the seasonal greeting.

I didn’t notice this before so I wasn’t aware it was in there at all. I’ll keep an eye out next week for the greeting of a new year.

In the spirit of festivity in Malaysia, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my reader “Merry Chritmas” and “Happy New Year”. May the new year bring you bundle of joys, good health and good luck. May all you wishes to “dress” up you giant come through.

Cheers

Update: Yes, the car greeted me with the Japanese version of Happy New Year when I drove the car on Jan 1, 2011. 明けましておめでとうございます.

  4. Hi Umar,

    Thanks for stopping by.

Nice to hear from a "pioneer" of Alphard owners. It was precisely the same reason I started this blog because I was having the same desperation when I started looking for more information in English.

I thought since I know a little bit of Japanese, I try to facilitate the translation and that's how this blog started.

Happy and Healty New Year to you too.

    Cheers

  5. Hi,
It's a great thing you have here. Wish there's more sites like this to help buyers/owners. I'm considering to buy a nfl 2005 ax model 8 seats maroon colour in Jb from Lace motors. Nego till 158k. Think its a fair deal? It's a plain model with only 1 pwr dr, rear camera, fwd and aft sensors.
Anyway... Happy new year and keep up the good job.

  6. Hi Eric,

    Thanks for stopping by.

Maroon colour is quite hard to get so if it is an important criteria, then I guess this is a fair deal. If it is not then I would like to suggest that you opt for one with more features.

I know it is probably not a lot of choice to choose from but if given a choice I would opt for one with twin power door (convenient), front and rear camera, multifunction steering, bluetooth enable HU and roof monitor. This ensure that you don't have to go back to retrofit some of these features if you need them later. I know this will bump the price a bit higher and also make you wait a bit longer for the right car to come along.

However I guess everyone has their own priority so I think you need to make that call.

Hope you find your giant baby soon.

    Cheers

  7. Hi,

Appreciate if you could write something on luggage compartment or boot. Most MPV have a very small luggage area behind the last row.Appreciate some photos also. Thanks

  8. Hi Afzan,

I will have to seriously look at the boot and see what I can write about it. Because of the design to carry as many passengers as possible with comfort, usually an MPV will sacrifice the luggage space.

  11. Hi, my VF used to have this greeting when i start my car but now i realised it was not there anymore....could it be when i installed the FM converter??

    1. Hi Mr. Muffin,

I think the greeting on the VF is also a setting like mine. It could have been turned off after your install the FM converter. I am not familiar with the VF HU menu to tell you how to set it on again.
